NEWS ADVISORY:
FOR ASSIGNMENT EDITORS AND NEWS DIRECTORS
Corporation Commission
pipeline safety experts are investigating to determine the cause of what
appears to have been a dual explosion and pipeline fire on the northeast corner
of the intersection of Luther Road and Wilshire in far eastern Oklahoma county.
Two separate natural gas
pipelines, one a 12-inch gas gathering line and the other a 12-inch gas
transmission line, both operated by Enogex, a subsidiary of OG&E, exploded
and burned at midday.
The lines run parallel to
each other at the point where the fire occurred and the transmission line runs
about six miles south into OG&E’s Horseshoe Lake plant just north of the
town of Harrah. Damage included nearby utility poles and lines, part of a
roadway and a wooded area where the pipelines burned. Local authorities report
no injuries.
