With
the advent of cold weather, the OCC has received numerous inquiries regarding
the rule governing disconnection of utilities during extreme weather. For
reference, it is as follows:
COLD
WEATHER DISCONNECTS: If the daytime high temperature is actually, or is
predicted to be, 32 degrees Fahrenheit or below on the day of disconnection, or
the nighttime low is predicted to be 20 degrees or less, the utility shall
suspend disconnection. NOTE: This rule does not apply if the meter has been
tampered with. It also applies only to that utility that the ratepayer uses for
heat (i.e., a gas furnace as opposed to an electric furnace).
