Railroad Department
The Railroad Department strives to serve the citizens of Oklahoma
in the area of rail safety by ensuring compliance with state laws and
Commission rules relative to the railroad industry.
The Railroad Department functions includes:
- Performs visual inspections and field assessments at railroad crossings to ensure compliance with sight
distance rules for the safety of the traveling public.
- Makes recommendations to the Commission concerning applications for new railroad crossings, closing of
existing crossing or changes in crossing warning devices.
- Acts on complaints from the public in relation to blocked crossings or excessive noxious weeds, trash and
debris on railroad rights-of-way in cities and towns.
- Cooperates with the Federal Railroad Administration in all rail safety disciplines.
- Ensures proper clearances for railcars at bridges, tunnels, docks, platforms, structures, parallel tracks,
public roads and highways.
- Assists in discovering facts and determining responsibilities in actions before the Commission.
