Truck Yard Wash Pits

What is a truck yard wash pit? A truck yard wash pit is a pit constructed in a truck yard and used for the temporary storage of fluids from washing or cleaning equipment used in the transportation of deleterious substances.

Who must construct a truck yard wash pit? Carriers who intend to temporarily store deleterious substance wash-out fluids from tank trucks must construct and maintain a wash out pit in accordance with Commission regulations.

What are the specifications for building a truck yard wash pit? Please see OAC 165:30-3-92 for minimum specifications for pit construction.

What is the required final disposal for fluids stored in a truck yard wash pit? Fluids temporarily stored in a truck yard wash pit must ultimately be properly disposed of in a disposal well that is permitted by the Oil and Gas Division, Pollution Abatement Department of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.

Is there a permit required for constructing a truck yard wash pit? Yes. The Truck Yard Wash Pit Permit is required.

How do you obtain the Truck Yard Wash Pit Permit? You must submit the Application to Construct or Enlarge Truck Yard Pit and pay the applicable fee. An Enforcement Officer will be assigned to the project and will contact you to make an appointment for meeting with you to view the proposed pit location. Please allow up to 2 weeks for this initial contact to take place. The Enforcement Officer will inspect the proposed location and prepare documentation concerning the building of the pit. As the pit is constructed, the Enforcement Officer will visit the site to document and approve the phases of its construction. Once the pit has met all requirements, a Truck Yard Wash Pit Permit will be issued.

Are there additional requirements? A Truck Yard Wash Pit Permit is required in addition to any other applicable licenses and permits issued by the Corporation Commission. The pit must be constructed and maintained to prevent pollution.

How do you transfer ownership of a truck yard wash pit? Transfer of the pit requires an Application to Transfer Truck Yard Pit and must be approved by the Commission.

How do you abandon a truck yard wash pit? Abandonment of the pit must be requested in writing and approved by the Commission.
